The Discord Sound For Messages Never Stops

The sounds for the messages just don't stop on my discord app(mac). The notifications for sound are just turned permanently off and there is no way to turn them on. When I click on the slider nothing happens, and even though it's off the sounds still continue. This problem happens on the browser as well.
