Reply Feature can be exploited to spam pings.
I am a Mod in a server of a game in development.
Pinging the devs, especialy while they work, without a good reason is a big no.
However, with the new reply feature, there is literally no way to tell if someone has notification on while replying to a dev. Even better, the user after sending the reply, does not have a way to tell if they had notifications on for that message or not.
Please make it obvious for everyone if a reply has notification on or not, for moderation and convenience sake.

I was about to suggest the same thing.
Especially in artist servers or servers that have a lot of celebrities, or otherwise popular people (such as YouTubers, Gamers, Musicians, Artists etc.) the culture of being mindful and not tagging these people despite seeing them in the server list is one that a lot of moderation teams pour in great effort to establish. I would go as far as call it common Discord Etiquette.
As moderators we need to be able to distinguish between a reply that has tagged the person and a reply where taging was switched off!
Otherwise we have to start establish weird workarounds such as nurturing the culture to not reply to old messages (for which the reply function is particularly helpful) or not to use the reply function on someone who is not currently in chat anyway.
That being said: I love the option to switch ping off!

EDIT:
Actually: we (now?) do see whether or not a person was tagged. There will be an @ in front of the reply message if the tag was on whilst no @ will appear if the tag was off (see attached image Courtesy of Guybrush).

EDIT:
So if you switch off tagging, the @ will dissapear from the comment, however, if you edit your reply, it will reappear despite not creating a tag. O.O That seems like a bug to me.
