Feature Request: Automatic Time Zone Conversion
Something that has always been a pain in the butt is trying to convert time zones when scheduling an event. At least once a week someone asks me "what time is this event" and other people in the server always have to figure out what time zone they are in to give them accurate information despite me literally saying what time zone the event is listed in.
What I propose is some sort of markdown that you can wrap a time / date in when writing a message that automatically converts the time / date to UTC on the back end and then to reader's local time zone on the front end with some sort of special highlighting indicating that it is converted.
I think a feature like this would really help a lot of people out especially when communicating with people in different countries.

this is really old, but yes. we need this.

It'd also be nice if we could e.g. click on an autoconverted time and schedule a Discord push notification event reminder.

I came here with the same idea. I was thinking even a tag that could be used to automatically convert
Say user A is Eastern, user B is Pacific, user C is Mountain
If user A enters %%5:00%% it would show up as 2:00 for user B or 3:00 for user C - maybe in a box or something so people know it's converted for their time zone
Discord connects people all around the world, setting like this would be a great quality of life improvement

I just figured out that apparently discord already has this built in?https://discord.com/developers/docs/reference#message-formatting
You can use <t:UnixTimestamp> to have a unix timestamp converted to people's local time. You can also have it only show a time if you use <t:UnixTimestamp:t> (though a specific date is required and is shown if you hover over the time.
Unfortunately for some unknown reason some people are telling me it is showing up unformatted for them which is kinda annoying and useless. I have also observed it not formatting for other things such as for user ids where it shows up as plain text. Not sure if this is something that can be fixed in the future.
I definitely still think it would be cool to offer a more user friendly way to do this that is made more obvious its an available feature. This would be a gamechanger for event planning if people knew about it and used it.2 -
Not a very user friendly interface and it doesn't work in the iOS app. A start, though.

I've used this to make these timestamps work in discord. Works really well and gives you a few options. It would be cool if this was built into Discord, but at least we have this tool for now: https://hammertime.djdavid98.art/

That tool is fantastic and I have definitely been recommending it. I just wish that discord had a built in menu that did the exact same thing. It would be really easy to just add a date and time picker button in say the same area as the emoji picker button that just inserts a timestamp. It could rid the world of timezone math for good especially for global communities.

I agree! Would be a great feature! I am curious if the new event system was a shot at addressing timezone concerns...

That’s my guess. The problem with it is you usually don’t need some big server wide event when you are scheduling something. It’s a great feature don’t get me wrong but it requires permissions to even use. With a Timestamp button it would be accessible to anyone who has the ability to send messages and would take up very little attention. I can understand if the issue is not wanting to clutter up the UI but I genuinely think this will become a very used feature if people are made aware of it’s existence and are given an easy way to use the feature.
