You have to manually return focus to message text field after attachment upload
It becomes annoying:
You chat with your friends, then you decide to send a message with an attachment using the pop up, and continue chatting. But you can't send another message until you click the text field. The input field doesn't regain focus it had before the pop up showed. Even Esc doesn't work, literally nothing. You have to click, with your mouse.
The same problem occurs when you cancel the attachment upload. After the pop up disappears, it's also impossible to type until you click.
I already typed into the void, thinking I'm writing a message after sending a picture, countless times… I asked some friends to check this and it occurs for them both in Windows app and web browser.
Could the field remember it had focus before, and regain it automatically?

I agree, it’s pretty annoying.

With every update, I'm starting to think whether the devs even know what the word "user friendly" even means. Sadly these are the people I'm now paying for...

It's incredibly obnoxious. Apparently this was a purposeful update by discord staff since when I submitted a bug report I was informed it was "intentional behavior".
There's another thread trying to get them to change it back here but honestly having as many threads up as possible going "hey wtf discord" is probably a good thing: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360052011694-Discord-unfocuses-chat-input-after-sending-media-v-309

"Thanks for reaching out to us. Just to let you know, that's actually the intended behavior of the app. I apologize if it is not to your liking."

It hasn't been the intended behavior for the past several YEARS of this app existing, it has never done this before, not to mention its only affecting people on certain versions of windows. Please fix it discord

Actually this HAS been the normal behaviour for the app. It's always deselected the text box. The change isn't that the text box gets deselected, it's that when you type without the text box selected, Discord no longer autoselects it to let you type again.

Ah I wasn't aware that's what was happening. Still that's incredibly annoying, really hope they fix it soon it's driving me insane when my muscle memory is like "just keep typing"

I didn't connect the dots here. But anyways, by changing this, they created an issue. They could make the input field remember if it had focus or not, to make this new change do only good and no harm. :(

The input field remembering if it had focus or not wouldn't fix things. There are a LOT of problems relating to this issue. Clicking into a channel doesn't always correctly give focus to the text box, double clicking by mistake sometimes removes focus, clicking back onto Discord after switching to another app window often doesn't put focus into the text box, and sometimes alt+tab also doesn't. Discord "remembering" when the text box had focus won't fix those problems, because the problem is that it had a consistent and helpful behaviour even when the text box WASN'T focused. There is a real problem here. Discord support are, for whatever reason, failing to think through the reasons why an ordinary long-standing behaviour of the client is suddenly getting reported as "new" and considered a problem. They aren't digging where they need to, but we can help by reporting the correct problem. Tell them that the text box isn't auto-focusing any more like it should be. That's the problem that actually needs reporting, and should have been identified in the wake of customers reporting the previously-normal behaviour as a "new" bug when it's just causing problems as a side effect of the actual bug.

You may be right, this is the real issue. I didn't see it this way.
