Creating a Discord Education Edition
Recently a friend of mine dreamed up an idea for Discord education. I'll leave the full email that I sent to Support below (they linked me here):
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As a student, I'm currently enrolled in online learning through Microsoft. I believe that while Microsoft is renowned for its fantastic work-assisting tools, it has failed to address something critical during the pandemic: meeting quality. The running joke of the year in schooling is that Teams' quality is very poor, and not very well suited for maximum learning capability. It's very difficult to learn through something as ill-equipped as Teams in terms of quality, and I present the solution to that problem by addressing the people who have created a much better audio and video service. By better audio and video service, I mean Discord.
Discord is renowned for having the absolute best call audio quality and video quality. I don't know of any other application that matches Discord's audio and video quality. I seldom have problems with it, and I use it frequently. However, I believe that in its current state, Discord's atmosphere isn't suited for educational purposes. Discord brands itself as being gaming-centered, which doesn't exactly attract the attention of formal education services, despite having superior call quality. The professional atmosphere of Teams is what attracts education services to Teams in the first place, despite Teams not being superior.
However, I think I know a way for Discord to claim the prize for the best call platform overall. Before I address this, I'd like to give all the credit for the following idea to @Vertex_14#9859 on Discord - he came up with the idea through addressing the same concerns that I've addressed thus far, and I'm simply relaying them.
Discord could and absolutely should create an education-based version of itself that appeals to the formal environment of education services. Discord is very easy to learn, and I think that with the right tools provided for teachers, those teachers could create a much better environment for their students to learn in. Call quality would be greatly improved, students would be much more interactive with their learning, and stress on teachers would be greatly reduced. Plus, from a business standpoint, Discord would receive global recognition for being the best formal and gaming-centered social media app. That global recognition would come with a plethora of perks, as well.
Now, personally, I don't know how I would go about solving the problem in terms of actually creating the education edition of Discord. I know that whatever Discord did with calls and streaming is an absolute must in the education edition, and I also know that their messaging service is also a must. I'm very unfamiliar with coding and creation of programs, but I'm highly confident that the execution of this idea will come as no problem to the developers of Discord.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please make sure people can see this! If Discord Education Edition becomes reality, then we won't have to use Teams and their crappy calls anymore!
Cheers!
