Android: self-updating APK version of Discord for users without Google Play
-
I agree it's a good idea for some, but some people don't want to update, and stay at a better version, so nah, the majority would rather have auto update or install a reliable apk online

What I meant to say was will there be an APK version of Discord for Android for users who don't have Google Play Services nor Google Play Store. Notifications in Discord currently rely on Google Play Services.
A self updating mechanism within the app would be possible and could be configured to ask the user if they wish to update when a new version is available. I've seen this work in other apps such as the APK version of Minds.

How did you manage to run Discord on a google-free device? I can't sign in because I don't have google play services

I remember I had some difficulty signing in too. I think I figured out a workaround by signing into Discord temporarily on my phone with a browser and the viewing mode set to "desktop site". After that, the app version worked, but without notifications working due to missing Google Play Services.
