shrink the new-day line-break thingy

whenever my time-zone hits a new day, a massive line-break appears that disrupts the flow of conversations for me in a way that it does not for people outside my time zone

this can cause me severe comprehension issues if a conversation has a several-hour break across midnight, with many people not perceiving the same disconnect

it would be ideal if i had the option, in both compact and cozy mode, but especially compact mode, to move and shrink that large date indicator to the side, in between lines, in such a fashion that it does not arbitrarily interfere with the vertical flow of closely related messages just because of which 24th of the world i live on
