Animated Gifs broken
Hi there:)
Seems a bad decision was made on your part...
You see, I use my device (many others do too) with reduced motion active in ios.
This has always worked fine, but this new update creates a dependency between the ios reduce motion setting and the ability to view animated gifs within discord.
Everything was working well, but this update crippled said functionality. I would like to keep the reduce motion setting for my whole ios ecosystem and not have to enable it to view an animated gif in discord.
This decision makes no sense whatsoever and woe onto whomever thought this was a good idea. Seems that someone lacks common sense?
Anywho, please update Discord so that it functions nominally again (disregarding reduced motion settings in ios)
Thank you for a quick fix if it is at all in your power.
Awaiting your feedback on this matter.
Thanks and have a lovely day:)

App Settings > Appearance > Reduce Motion
Turn off Sync with Device Settings, then turn off reduce motion. It took me a hot minute to find it myself, but the option is there. Definitely would be nice if it told you where to go from the gif autoplay settings though.0 -
Hi Hydra)
Thanks for your comment=)
I am aware of the reduce motion function and its location in the IOS settings..
I have activated reduce motion as it affects the whole Ios ecosystem.. It controls things like:
- Screen transitions and effects use the dissolve effect instead of zoom or slide effects.
- Parallax effect where your wallpaper, apps, and alerts that move or shift slightly as you tilt your device are disabled.
- Animation and effects in certain apps are disabled. For example, weather animations in the Weather app.
Many people get headaches or a feeling of vertigo with the reduce motion not active. Also, it uses more of the devices battery power.
That is why i have "reduce motion = on"
Viewing animated gifs in discord also worked fine with this ios setting on.
The new discord update tethers/entangles the viewing of animated gifs in discord to the RM setting in ios.
They need to separate it again to how it was before the last udpdate (as of writing this message)
(The gifs are still animated when searching tenor via discord, but as soon as i select and post them, or receive a gif from someone else, they turn into static, non-animated snapshots of the gif. And, there is no way to view them how they are supposed to be viewed (apart from, downloading them and looking at them through another app (photos).
This is a total degradation of the discord chat experience.
Again: please separate the *Automatically play GIFs when possible" option in discords menu from the (totally seperate) Reduce Motion function of IOS.
(for all the right reasons. - They literally have nothing to do with each other.)
Thank you =)

No, follow my chain of instructions from within discord. You can separate discord’s use of it from iOS’s.
