Very important: Permanent ''muted'' overlay notificaton
Here is a user story that happens with me and almost everyone I know:
- User wants to mute hiself on discord temporarily for personal reasons.
- When the event is resovled, the user resumes his game/conversation.
- 10 minutes later he realizes he forgot to unmute himself.
- User feels stupid and frustrated.
We mute for highly distracting reasons (e.g a phone call, going to get a drink, bio break...etc). Therefore it's often the case that the small task of clicking the unmute button is forgotten.
I suggest making a feature like this:
- when the user is self-muted the ''display overlay'' will show a highly visible status warning. it could be just the word ''Muted" in red, or a red recrangle with the microphone on, or whatever your UX designers find best.
- some users might want a small notification, others a big one.
- some users might not want this, especially if they want to stay muted permanently. Therefore this feature must be togglable on/off.
- if the microphone detects the user speaking for a few seconds a notification should appear reminding him that his mic is muted. the length and intensity is determined by your user research.
- optional: A new button named ''temporary mute'' to the right of ''deafen'' to avoid confusing with the regular mute. this will mute the user for a time he chooses from a few pre-selected options or a setting under ''options''. When that time expires the users gets a notification that he will be unmuted in 3...2...1.
Discord is great, just this problem is extremely annoying, please fix this.
