Allow Users To Costumize Text Color and Other Accessibility Elements
I am sensitive to brighter colors, especially when there is a significant contrast between text and background. For example, a black background with pure white text is blinding and unusable. Or a web page that is a pure white or bright background. Even as I write this feedback post I have trouble focusing on the text because the white background is overwhelming. Usually the best contrasts for me personally are a darkish background with gray text. This is a comfortable contrast that lets you see text clearly without any issue. Discord was doing this perfectly... in the past.
But now, after every update, Discord keeps finding a way of making text brighter and brighter. Every update I am being pushed further and further away from using the app. For example, today, they made embs have a darker background, and they made the text go from gray to a brighter white. I am in a server with bots posting a lot of embs. It's now hard for me to look at the chat because of this.
But the thing is: Not everyone has the same preference as me. Some are either comfortable with this, or have their own complaints.
So what is the best way to solve this accessibility problem? Allow users to customize/edit certain accessibility elements, such as text color, in the app without breaking the ToS. I don't mean give us full control of everything like some classic MySpace page or Tumblr blog. Instead, give us the ability to change things, like text color, that affect the accessibility of the app. Such a feature would also bring benefits beyond accessibility by allowing users to have a more personalized chat experience, which I think will be much more welcoming to users.
