Re-Add the Ability to Use Spaces in Channel Names.
So previously, users had the free ability to use spaces (rather than the usual hyphens) within their channel names to allow them the ability to give their channels a new, concise, and personalized look alongside emoji/symbol usage to their interest (for example, #👋 — welcome).
This was easily made possible with the help of bot owners and developers who wanted to give Discord users a chance to have the option to be able to do this so that it wouldn't be a "#💬-channel-with-many-dashes" as opposed to "#💬 — very less dashes".
One of the few recent updates that have been implemented to the service hardly make this possible. While it was not an intended function from the service itself, that does not mean it should be refrained from operating. I am not aware of the specific methods that are used to cause such a change because of the fact that Discord auto-formats it to the normal and typical dash-per-phrase, but it would really result in many server owners and managers contributing to its re-addition.
If anything, I would strongly prefer an official consideration for it in a future update rather than users having to rely on bots to make this change possible.

Agreed!

They really need to add it back because discord looks SUPER ugly with the dashes. I feel like it's even hard on my eyes now that we have to live with the dashes
5 -
Or they could just allow us to use spaces in the channel names without needing a bot to do it.
6 -
Agreed, we want it back

Totally... anyways is there a character that could replace the discord channel dashes? now that the space on channel feature is removed, maybe a character could replace it?
5 -
PendN - there was, but a recent update disabled it.

Please add this back it makes all of my server channels look so much nicer... :(

Agreed

up voted just to show my support! I would like the ability to remove them again as well.

Bring spaces back, discord! sadwumpus

Having spaces is a minor change but it makes a big difference in presentation. We-want-our-spaces-back

Agreed! My server looked so much better with spaced channels.

Just see how the old channels look unique and easily readable https://i.imgur.com/RjaV8Gv.png while the new is too much ugly https://i.imgur.com/fc8xIyn.png

Bumping this.
When I initially replied to this thread I brought up that you could just mention the channel using its ID, so spaces would not be a problem if linking to the channel simply auto-corrected to the channel’s ID.
Since then however, Discord’s chat box has (on desktop versions of the app) updated to a rich text interface which, because emoji, mentions, and channel links are treated as all one entity (they get deleted when you backspace over them rather than letting you backspace individual letters within these entities). As a result I see even less of an issue with readding our ability to space channels with bots or making this a native function of Discord itself.
Since then I have also learned that the bots functioned not by adding the space we use to separate words but by adding two “half-space” characters to create the illusion of a space. Since Discord already automatically treats a space as a hyphen when naming a channel, I see no reason why Discord couldn’t simply auto-correct a normal space to these two half-space characters instead. The non-breaking space character could also be used in place of a normal space.
Text channel names are the only things in Discord that can’t be named using spaces, and even then they allow special characters such as emoji, long dashes, and presumably characters from other alphabets. In addition to my points from before about why this wouldn’t be a technical issue and is both easier to read and more aesthetically pleasing, allow me to raise the point of standardization.
Voice channels, categories, and roles can all be named using spaces. Roles, as I believe I’ve mentioned before, also do not have a problem being mentioned even if you use spaces or other special characters such as emoji in the name. (Ditto for nicknames and even usernames.) Text channels not being able to have spaces in the name when every other thing you can name allows spaces looks messy... Because it doesn’t fit within the standard/aesthetic of everything else we can customize in our servers! It sticks out like a sore thumb.

A space makes the channel clean. Like a clear link to a page. I thought the - was just there cause thats how discord reads spaces since maybe they didn't make a system to allow spaces or something. But it clearly is possible to have a space in a channel name. I don't see why we can't have it. We were able to do is but discord is really forcing - in the name no matter what.

I dont understand why the limitation on characters on the text channels... is awful

Any update on this from the Discord staff?

Add this back please or at least have the option so that you need nitro or something to use spaces and make it so bot developers can purchase nitro for their bot. That way you need nitro for spaces but developers can buy nitro for there bots and we can all use spaces again. Please do bring this back.

@External that is a terrible idea, why would they lock *spaces* behind a paywall???
2 -
@External It is worth noting that bots are unable to receive features that are available alongside Nitro (with the exception of animated emoji usage).
Bots are also not able to have subscriptions or anything that is dedicated for "human" accounts (such as boosting, HypeSquad, etc.) because they are built and operated using programming languages and other useful resources. They are pretty much the user-created "NPCs" of Discord.
1 -
I completely agree with this, for neat and showcasing servers, what are you supposed to do now?
2 -
@External Putting a price on something so simple isn't something I wan't to pay for. That is like paying for making text bold or Italic in the chat. Spaces is needed in channels. And if maybe a space isn't working then why can't we have it so when we press space it turns into a the 2 smaller spaces that were used.

Would love to have this feature back.

Agreed
