Unable to remove @ from username with live preview

I am now functionally unable to get a user's tag without actually pinging them in the message. For example, we use a bot that can ping users with the command text, by simply sending !command Username#0000

 

 

With the markdown previews, I can't select only the @ now to delete it in my message, forcing double pings for the command + command text.  The alternative is to type out the user's tag manually, but for some users with special characters in their names, that is not at all practical and indeed sometimes impossible.  I enjoy the rest of the markdown previews, though it was a tad disorienting at first, and don't want to disable the whole feature because of one small problem.

  I definitely agree. This is so annoying. Please let us edit the pings. eg: If I were to ping @PersonX 
  I could edit the @ out of it but now I cant. This is really inconvenient.
