Suggestion: A "Forum" channel type.
Nothing overly complicated, just a different way of organizing text channels.
Functionally, pretty identical to this forum here actually. People can post "forum post" messages that have a header and a body. Other people can then respond to this individual message as "comments."
This would allow for better organization, less clutter, and easier ways of keeping track of discussions.
There's a good few major uses for these.
"Forum posts" with the suggestion as the title, and a short explanation of what it means in the body.
Then comments on this suggestion post that allow you to keep track of people's feedback significantly easier.
Staff application channels.
Anyone can post a forum post. (With a timer between posts, obviously, for the sake of preventing spam.)
Only high ranking staff members can comment on it, to vote whether or not they feel the person should be a staff member.
Rather than separating things into a "post art/writing/music/etc here" channel and a "critique stuff here" channel, you would just have a single channel and allow people to comment on those posts to keep track of which critique is for what.
Those are just the major things I would use it for personally, there's an absolute ton of uses for that kind of channel. DnD character sheets, polls, discussing very specific topics that it isn't worth making a dedicated channel for...
And while I'm aware a lot of this could be done with channels set up in particular ways, or bots, or emotes... It would be much easier to do these kinds of things if it was a dedicated feature in Discord.
Feeds in Microsoft Teams work like this and I would love this feature in Discord as I'm not really a fan of MS Teams overall.1
This is pretty similar to the idea I posted, though I went a bit more down the road of "keep discord working as it does, but allow mods/users to "convert interesting messages to a topic", which will be kept available on the "forum" and indexed by google, so it shows up on google searches etc:
This is a feature in guilded.gg but I would love to have it in discord!0
