How to best implement this feature?
Most chat/messaging applications have this feature where you can reply to a direct message under a quote.
Often mobile apps will allow you to swipe a certain direction on a selected message which will then automatically quote/reply the message. The alternative for this is to press and hold on a selected message which will prompt the user to perform a number of actions depending on their needs accordingly.
As for the Discord desktop app, when hovering over a message the user will be prompted to react with an emoji. The same method could be implemented where, if the user hovers over a selected message, they will also have the option to reply by a press of a button which will automatically quote/reply the message.
This feature is (in my opinion) essential for an application such as Discord. Being that this platform is predominantly used among a large group of users in one channel. It can often be a struggle to keep track of multiple conversations going all at one time. Yes, there is the ability to create chat-specific channels but it still doesn't help when you @mention a peer and others want to be involved with the specific conversation they're talking about.
This helps reduce confusion as well as streamline messages and conversation between peers. This also gives users the ability to back track on older messages as a reference to the new conversation they start.
So I guess I pose the same question as everyone else who've raised the same topic... when will this be a thing and how soon/late will we expect this feature to be implemented? Will it ever be a thing? Do you think this is an essential feature? What're your thoughts?
