Modular Notification Triggers
Yes, likely the ten thousandth notification feedback thread; but that's kind of my point: we all have unique needs as far as when we want Discord to get our attention. To say nothing of all the unique servers we're a part of that all behave differently, that we have varying roles and responsibilities in, and that we all want to use differently.
So, in the vein of apps like Anki, 2Do (or even Excel) that have very basic functionality on its face, but offer a complex-but-powerful suite of options if you click on the "advanced preferences" button, I put forth that Discord would serve its userbase best by offering a modular, feature-rich customizable notification preference interface.
In the interest of offering up options like:
- Distinct preferences for desktop and mobile (not just "mirror desktop for this server or nothing at all")
- Conversation breaks out (could be "someone posts a message after X minutes/hours of silence", "X messages posted within a span of Y minutes between Z or more people", without continued pushing of every message. (The temp-mute feature was great in theory but buried just too deep; if I'm too busy to join in the talk, opening Discord, going into the channel, swiping right, hitting the ... menu, and then selecting the length of time is just a little much if I have other stuff on my plate.)
- Custom words. I'd probably want to know whenever anyone on my tabletop server mentions "Shadowrun" (me being their GM for that one and all), but also being mentioned by name (since most people will just call me "Dack" and not "@dackquiri", and I'm sure plenty folks out there would want to get notifications on their nicknames as well)
- Custom groupings of mobile push notifications
- I'm sure I'm barely scratching the surface of what people would most like to see... and that's kinda my point, so feel free to pitch in in the comments
