Can't use my Nitro gift

Apparently my Nitro was about to expire, so my friend gave me another Nitro as a gift, but they turned into Nitro Credit.... I really want to use my Nitro, I don't want to feel that my friend's money has gone to waste. I know I may have received the gift too soon, but that was before I even know what happens! If it's possible, can I get my Nitro back instead of having Nitro Credit? Please....
