The Friends tab was perfect before. It didn't need to change.
Offline friends in the Online tab
Why is this a thing? Having only online friends showing up in the Online tab was perfect. It made it very clear and easy to see who was online at a glance. Having offline friends also showing up in the Online tab makes no sense at all and serves no purpose whatsoever. If I need to see offline friends, that is what the All tab is for.
Statuses
Having statuses displayed next to friend's names in the Status section was a lot easier on the eyes since it was in bigger text and more spaced out from the names, rather than just having everything crammed underneath the names in tiny text as it is now.
Clicking on names to chat
Being able to click on someone's name to bring up the conversation with them was much more useful than just bringing up their profile as it does now. It's pretty rare that I ever have to look at someone's profile, and that was easy enough to do before by simply right-clicking their name and clicking Profile.
Mutual servers
Being able to see mutual servers in the Friends tab (rather than just on a friend's profile) was a good feature to have, and nothing was gained by removing it. The space where it used to be is now just empty and for no reason.
Message and More buttons on friend's names
The Message button should be removed and instead clicking on a friend's name should bring up the conversation like it used to. The More button would be fine if it only showed up when hovering the cursor over someone's name like it did before. Having it there all the time on every friend's name is unnecessary and ugly to look at.
Active Now
The Active Now tab takes up a lot of space (roughly a quarter of Discord on my screen), and serves the exact same function as statuses, making it a very unwelcome addition for me. At the very least, I would like to have an option to hide it.
This update was supposed to "declutter your Discord experience", but in fact does the exact opposite in almost every way. Personally, I would love to just have everything reverted back to how it was before, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I have a similar thread open for the same issue...
Even made a history of the different versions they've been through now...And for people who don't know... not everyone is seeing these changes... seems like an involunteer focus group thingy they're having...
If you want to see what's changed (or the layout history over the last couple of days... here's the link to my thread

I agree! The most bothering thing to me is definitely the fact that offline friends show up in the Online tab, that makes no sense at all!
Also, the fact that statuses display below names makes the UI appear way too compact.
I don't know why they felt like changing it. It was perfect before and didn't needed a revamp any time soon. Hope they roll it back.

Showing offline friends in the Online tab is just wrong. What kind of change is that? It doesn't improve anything and fills the list for no reason at all.
DO NOT show offline friends in the Online tab or atleast make a setting for that so users can change it to the way it was before.3 -
It was just entirely better before...
The fact that we get to people's completely useless profiles when clicking on them now, instead of direct messages like before is also annoying... I know there's a small icon for direct messaging, but why make it need precision to begin with...
Who here needs to regularly go to their friendlists profiles?
What would we need to do there?2
