Request for New Feature: Changing the Character Limit in Specific Channels
I'm not sure if this is better suited for this forum section or the API section, but as it relates to the chat specifically, I'm going to put it here for now.
The 2,000 character limit. For some users, this is a lot, and they'll go their ways without ever encountering it. But for people involved with servers based around roleplaying or writing stories, the character limit is an inconvenience more than anything. Therefore, I would like to propose the ability for server owners to change the character limit within their servers- or perhaps even specific channels. I don't believe this would be too hard to implement, but I have absolutely no experience with coding, so I'm uncertain. However, a simple option underneath the "Overview" portion of the Server Settings menu to change the character limit would be wonderful. Or you could set it in individual channels, also underneath the "Overview" portion of the Channel Settings menu. The ability to change the character limit in specific channels would be much more beneficial compared to changing it server-wide, as you could have the regular character limit in, say, a general channel, while a higher character limit in a channel where long messages will be sent frequently.
I propose that server owners be able to change the character limit from 2,000 to 5,000 at intervals of 500- so 2,500, 3,000, 3,500, 4,000, 4,500, and 5,000 characters. This would prevent the character limit from being something absolutely obscene, and it would also allow things to remain nice and even. I don't think even 5,000 characters a message would cause stress on Discord's servers. It also wouldn't be viable to voice concern over people abusing the character limit- I'm not suggesting it change across all of Discord, but rather in specific channels of specific servers. This is entirely something up to the server owners/admins, and if they decide their extended character limit is being abused, they could easily change it back.
A separate permission could be added to roles that allows it to manage the character limit, maybe? I can't see it fitting under anything currently there, and it's likely best for it to be its own thing, anyway. It could also be left up to the server owners, though. The specifics don't matter. It just needs some form of change, as the 2,000 character limit is very restrictive when you're trying to send long messages. I don't see any possible way a change like this could be problematic to anyone in the slightest.
(Just look at all this empty space that could be used to host something like this...)

Agreed! I'm not sure why a server admin shouldn't be able to post longer messages in an Announcement or Rules channel. This should be adjustable as a roles permission for Admin and other roles they may designate.
