Desktop app freezes related to emoji picker

Whenever I open the emoji picker or occasionally when I search for an emote in the chat bar using colons, about a second after it opens the app becomes unresponsive, and generally only responds several seconds after i attempt to close the picker/delete the chat message.

The same thing also happens occasionally when I open some channels, in the same manner, although I can't figure out a cause and it will not reproduce when i open the same channels.

This has been happening since the recent major update.
