Messages darkening on hover is horrible.
The emoji bar, the annoying darkening on message hover and more is just utter annoyance and nothing else, Discord has been sleek and clean for 4 years and then you come up with this without any option to turn it off?
Seriously, at the very least add an option, this is almost as bad as making Light mode a permanent thing without a dark mode option.
Edit: someone mentioned black boxes make it easier to see what message you're selecting?
Yeah, I've been developing discord bots for 3 years and this sometimes involves copying the IDs from messages or other. You can just right click any text in the message (provided it's not a mention) and you're good, failing that, you can literally just hit the 3 dots at the side and you know the message. It's not hard, I don't need a black box to point it out to me like I'm blind.
Also to everyone about message spacing: an option in the appearance tab allows you to change to spacing a tad, but more customisation could be used. It's not really a problem in my experience though.

That and the fact that messages have almost no spacing between them now. It's made the whole chat system go from sleek to completely claustrophobic and annoying.

Maybe make it an option instead? I mean it's a lot easier now to add reactions and stuff so I get why some people like it.

Message darkening helps you understand more clearly which message are you going to react to (or do other options in the message related menu) Without it, you have to spend at least 5 seconds figuring out which message are the "react" and "more" buttons related to. I don't like the spacing between messages, but darkening is a useful feature and it impacts the UX a lot, in a good way.

The dark background behind hovered messages is distracting/too dark, it should be barely noticeable if there at all.
