Unneeded space in between new messages

This new spacing between a new messages just doesn't look right. I preferred it when it would still show the users picture and name with the new message rather than a massive space and just the message. Its just too bulky to me?

  Mine has the red line between the new message or more then one , this was the old method. 

  Also mine stopped doing how many new messages you have.
