the new UI is not appealing - this is not just an adverse reaction to sudden and drastic changes

1. The emoticon bar would have been better inline with the messages, like how the previous emoticon reaction icon was. Right now, it looks more like Slack and is not appealing. 

2. The embed previews are huge, distracting from much of the conversation.

3. The block highlighting of messages is annoying.

4. At least provide an option to have the old UI as the default and you can new UI experiments as an opt-in feature, that way you can poll usage and adjust as per your audience. My guess is, that will vary depending on the region.

Please note that drastic changes without consider user experience can ultimately ended up ruining it.

    The block highlighting isn't bad, it displays individual message times too. Everything else bad though.
