Please revert all the recent chat UI changes or make it toggleable
Sorry for the apparent duplicate, but strength in numbers they say...
I am not generally against changes, and I like most of the stuff that has been added recently, like the automatic formatting preview, but there's never been an update so met with my disappointment before like this one.
To start, I can see that Discord is trying to be more like Slack, but you don't have to copy over the most annoying aspects of it.
The new reaction bar is especially annoying: it obstructs messages so you can accidentally add a reaction when you simply want to click a link or copy text, distracts from both reading and writing when it appears and disappears all the time, and I don't really see why I should be motivated to add some smiley face to every message that I hover over. I can see why I might be, but I don't see why I have to be - it should be toggleable.
The vertical spacing is the next thing. I use the compact form, but now thanks to this change, orienting in the text is much harder. I mean it's fine to be able to change the group spacing, but why is it now based on the sender and not only on the time like before? I can already visually distinguish the sender based on the name and I don't really see how could I get confused about which messages are mine and which aren't, so there is no need to space it out based on this. But being able to individually distinguish which message came an hour ago and which 5 hours ago is useful, and that is no longer the case, as the difference could be either in the sender or in the time. Also I don't really get why the space width option is 0px, 4px, 8px and not something in between. Like it's not so hard to implement the whole (integral) interval, is it?
And lastly, why was distinguishing between sent and unsent messages removed? There've been some connectivity issues a while ago, and I sent a couple of messages, thought them delivered, then left the computer and came back only to see half of them duplicated and half unsent. That's simply wrong on so many levels. It's fine that an undelivered message is attempted to be sent again, but why can't the servers distinguish between copies of an identical message? It's not like you would want this issue to happen when sending cash from one bank account to another, would you? And all good IM clients give you some indication when a message is finally sent, but Discord doesn't anymore: it assumes it is sent and then only gives you an indication that it wasn't when it finally gives up re-sending it.
To be fair, the highlighting is something that I could get used to, but I don't see its necessity. I can already determine which message I am pointing at quite well.
There are posts like this for 2 weeks straight. Please do something with it.
Sincerely, IS4.

Good to see people still going on about this, the lack of response from Discord on what has been overwhelmingly negative feedback is ridiculous :/
