"Activity" Notifications
Something really annoying about notifications is the big difference between "All Messages" and "Only @mentions". If you have "All Messages" turned on and a conversation starts, you get bombarded with notifications for every single message sent. If you have "Only @mentions", then it becomes really easy to miss new activity.
A solution could be a "New Activity" notification type. It will only send a notification when a channel has a new message after a certain time has past since the last message. It might read: "New activity in #[Channel, [Server]". After this, it won't send another until enough time passes.
Depending on how heavy each individual read state check is, you can either have it be a configurable timeframe of maybe 15 minutes to a couple hours with steps in between (30mins, 45mins, 60mins, 90mins...), or have just a static timeframe of 60mins or something comparable.
I at least have been wanting something like this for a long time and I'm sure that I'm not the only one. It would be really helpful on a daily basis.
