A suggestion to both improve the new "Quick Emotes" and give people an option to both hide it or expand it
I've seen some people complaining about the new "Quick Emotes" bar that pops up when you hover over a message. Personally, I actually kinda like it, but having only the top three seems limiting to me. I personally might go for a top 5 or 6 myself!
I think it'd be even more useful (and more flexible) to add a "Favorites" area to the emote menu (maybe have a toggle to turn this on and of in "User Settings", for those who prefer a less cluttered emote menu). Maybe you could just drag anywhere from 0-10 emotes into the favorites bar, and they would appear in the quick emote popup. If the favorites bar appears to the left of the emotes menu when it's open, just like it appears to the left of the emotes icon, when highlighting a message, then it'll stay out of the way of the emotes menu when scrolling or searching, without the favorite emotes cluttering the emotes menu itself.
So, my idea kinda follows like this...
With no emotes in favorites, it appears like the old setup.

If you open the emotes menu, you'd see:

If you drag an emote from the menu to the favorites bar, you'd see:

With emotes added to the favorites bar, it would appear like the new top three quick emotes, but now user customizable, from say, zero to ten. In this example, only 2 emotes are added.

That's how I'd improve it. It gives people the option of choosing how many (or even none) emotes show up.

And maybe have a toggle in User Settings to switch between it being a popup when mousing over a message, or the emotes menu and drop down menu always appearing at the right side of the message, and the quick emotes only appearing as a mouse over event.
I'm all about user options. It's better than a few people whining to take away a new feature. Some might like it, some don't. Give people the option to choose.1
