New Android Message Bar Styling
Never left feedback before but the new message bar and interface warranted me looking this up. The design caught me right off and while the functionality is fine, it doesn't match the rest of the app's design. To me it looks too much like your stereotypical SMS app, which, while it might help people transition over more seamlessly from other apps, seems like it's trying too hard to fit the layout of those like Google Messages or similar. I didn't see anything wrong with the old layout and thought it was nice to see Discord staying a little different.
The main thing that bothers me is how it doesn't seem to match the styling in the rest of the app. If the fillet was much smaller like on the channels or selected servers, sure, but as it is now it just seems out of place. Perhaps there's plans to make the rest of the app like this...? I don't know, although apparently this design has been out on Apple products for some time so who's to wonder. It's a nit picky thing, I get it, but it simply seems like a strange choice. Maybe an option could be added allowing the user to select the message bar styling...? Anyway, that's my two cents, or at this point a few more than that.

To add on, with just how it doesn't match anything else, the dark gray color used in the message bar and on the camera and image icons matches only one thing that I can find, which is the server sidebar, an element which is not visible much of the time on mobile. It sticks out especially when contrasted with the lighter gray of the top bar, and leaves one wondering why that color wasn't used instead. Additionally, the circular shapes of the elements of the message bar fit in with each other, but not with any other similarly-acting elements anywhere in the UI, besides the "invite members" button on servers where that's an option.
When taken on its own, the new message bar isn't bad, but as part of the larger interface of the app it sticks out like a sore thumb and just looks frankly incomplete.

Well put @le birb. Those were things I noticed as well but forgot to mention. Like you said, it's not a problem by itself, but when paired with the reminder of the app it just doesn't fit.

Just to add another thing I just noticed: the entry box resizing when the channel name is long and it wraps to a new line but the input cursor staying centered vertically feels like another case of things being incomplete.

It just seems like trying too hard to be normal with the other websites, youtube tried doing it, plenty of browsers did it, everyone is trying to round out every corner and i personally find it disgusting looking. If youre gonna keep this in, at least give me the option to turn it back in my own settings

Im glad theres some constructive criticism in the feedback.
It isn't non functional,
But it isn't discord.
I hope they change it back. I woke up this morning and have been repulsed by the design. I couldn't figure out *why* I hated it so much until I saw this post.10 -
This "update" feels like a collaboration of the most stupid ideas Discord design department has ever thought of.
While the changes are mild they skyrocket the annoyance of using the app.
The design tries to copy every other messaging app - that's honestly depressing.
And "designated photo button" is the pinnacle of bad ideas. First of all, who ever makes photos from inside a messaging app where you have less fucntions than in your camera app? Second, it feels like you tried to make it one press faster to take a photo, but in order to keep the size of the textbox you now minimize both "photo" and "media" buttons, so not only taking a photo still takes the same ammount of button pressing but it now also takes one press more to send any media. Not speaking of waiting for my keyboard to minimize every god damn time.
-_-
This update made me leave an app review for the first time in my life. A negative one. And for my most favorite app.
:c3
