There is currently barely any support for large friends lists. Here are my suggestions.
I have had this issue with notes ever since they came out. I started using Discord 4 years ago, and it is sad to see that notes haven't reached their full potential yet.
One time, I was trying to find an old friend of mine who I hadn't spoken to in a few months, but I had more than 200 people in my friends list. Clicking on each and every one of them individually to find the note that I had placed on him was extremely tidious, and I gave up halfway through.
Here are some of my suggestions:
Firstly, display the note directly in the friends list. At the moment I have to click on every single profile to see their notes, but seeing their notes directly in the friends list would save me a large amount of time, and motivate me more to use the feature.
secondly, the ability to add people to a 'favorite' or 'best friends' list would be a life saver. I can't stress enough how poor the UX on large friendlists is at the moment. The design is clean, but poorly executed. I don't want to see a long list thrown at my face, I want to see it customizable and organized.
Thirdly, add the ability to order your friends list on a set of parameters. For example: their activity (amount of time at which their status is 'online'), friend count, most messages between you and them and most time spent in vc with you. These parameters would make the experience much, much easier.
Fourthly, remove the status text from the friends list and replace it with notes or other things that actually add on the main functionality of the friends list; finding a friend. I still want to see their availability icon, but seeing who they are first with, for example, notes is more important to users than their status. This idea could be applied on the mobile app, but on computer monitors (especially widescreen) there is too much unused space in the friends list which could be used to display notes, their last time online, how long they've been online for, etc.
Lastly, I want to see how many friends people have. This would be useful in finding people who might be able to introduce you to other folks with similar interests.
I'd like to add that Discord's design is great. However, the way it is executed (such as in the friendlist) could be improved upon.
Thank you for reading.
