an example to test what this serious bug i'm talking about:

type すまいる and press space a few times to try and convert it.

i should also clarify, this is not a "some users" bug. this bug affects EVERYONE.

How did discord not already address this? This is a major accessibility issue!

Another example: type "てにす" and hit space to select the first result. It's a tennis ball emoji and before you can even go to the result after the emoji discord replaces the text with its emoji, making the selection of the katakana term (テニス) impossible because the IME menu closes automatically.

I have contacted support about this issue.

It seems to be a problem specific to Japanese (a language that needs to be converted). Some functions are limited, but you can avoid the trouble by taking the following actions.

For the above problem, please go to the Text and Image settings and turn off the "Use slash command to preview emoji, mentions, and markdowns" option.

They said that the problem is still continuing and there is no workaround other than this method.

Note this was resolved at some point, and if you have the option turned off you can turn it back on and emoji will no longer break your IME.
