BetterDiscord - BD is Bannable?
Hey, I recently heard about an Plugin named BetterDiscord, in where you can change the theme! I was amazed at first glance, but I read in the comments that it was bannable beacuse it is against ToS of Discord, is that true, if so, can you tell me why?

It is against ToS of Discord because you're modifying Discord and it can cause security issues. If you just google stuff related to it you should be able to see all of the stuff related to it.

Discord needs to not ban third party clients, full stop. If discord ever makes the ads more intrusive, those of us who loathe ads will need a way to be able to ad block, or we'll just leave.

I agree with Skye, honestly it should be up to the user about safety but in the end its their platform.

We should at least be able to use the theming engine from BetterDiscord. Perhaps custom themes could be native as a compromise?

Custom themes seem like an obvious native integration to me. Who wouldn't want that?
It would be especially helpful if one could make Discord opaque so that they could pin it to always be on top yet, still see other applications, such as OBS, behind it.14 -
It's bannable but i've never seen anyone get banned for it, I don't know how discord would even be able to check if you have it installed.

As someone whose seen people using BD themes a lot I can confidently say that discord's current UI is ugly and needs a native platform for custom themes.

Related to the Theme engine...
All of you guys must have encountered a video/gif that made your discord freeze or even crash. If you think about it, people will come up with crashy themes and maybe make the entire platform overload and crash the server (just a theory that bothered me).0 -
The thing is that BD makes you able to see deleted msgs, edited msgs, and other things like that but it can get very irritating with people holding things against you from deleted msgs or edited ones. Sure you may want it to look cooler but that isn't the only thing BD does.

If you think about it, people will come up with crashy themes and maybe make the entire platform overload and crash the server (just a theory that bothered me).So, regarding what you said, BetterDiscords Theme Engine downloads the theme and stores it in the BD \themes folder. It would not make servers crash as it's local. Also, it isn't as easy to get a Client Crashing Gif into a theme as BD themes use .css

Discord regularly says BD has "security risks", but they have provided ZERO evidence to back this up. If you try and have a legitimate discussion with a Discord employee about BD, they immediately shut you down and turn into a robot, repeating what the TOS says verbatim.
I think what it really is, Discord is angry and/or jealous that BD exists and adds in a ton of helpful features. It'd disgusting that Discord is hiding behind its TOS and not offering ANY transparency or any truth as to why it's not allowed.

Well if its against TOS but BD has its popularity, the fix is really easy, just add an official way to change our colours at least, I mean, maybe not screenshots or new buttons, but just coloured themes or different letter fonts? Why not¿? I mean, we already have dark and light theme, Im sure red, blue, green, purple or pink is not that hard xd

@GotenDaBoi I'm not even sure if they do ban for casual use. A buddy of mine said he has been using it for two years without problem. I think they only ban if you use it maliciously.

i would understand it if you abuse BD for something like automatic Spamming yk but thats the only thing really against BD beside its local and everyone should decide for themself what they install on there pc so yea...
i would say, make the BD community happy and let them use it lol

honestly use betterdiscord to your discretion, it IS against the discord tos, however discord does not care if you are using it, unless you are using it maliciously, predatorily, and invading privacy

discord applies the ban only to those who use BetterDiscord maliciously. Could anyone confirm this theory?

THE BD cannot be banned beacouse, we cant report it.

It wouldn't affect the discord server as CSS is interpreted by the client only, even plugins wouldn't affect the discord servers as that is javascript and, like css, is interpreted by the client only.2 -
FXHrizon while I can understand where you're coming from I have to disagree with that line of thought, if that were the case it would have happened already and it has when people download untrustworthy plugins. Just like any open source or focused community there is one for better discord that ensures safe plugins and maintains updates to their plugins and dependencies. Any rule followed by internet users hasn't changed with the inclusion of better discord, common sense and knowing what your downloading or applying to your better discord client ensures you'll have no issues. This argument has the same holes as the ones for anti right to repair or using operating systems without antivirus such as Linux or windows ameliorated. It's a solution to a problem that can be easily avoided with common sense and education. I'm not saying any of this to insult your or downplay your point of view and I apologize if I came off rude, I only meant to explain that if someone isn't educated for internet safety then better discord would be the least of their worries.

to be honest, it's your choice if you wanna use it. if you wanna use it go ahead, no one will stop you, but if you don't want to then don't use it.

Frankly, why be against BD when it just changes user discord, I think it might be a great idea to add themes to default discord!

5.0 you shouldn't as from what I've heard Discord won't go out of their way to ban accounts using better discord unless it is being used in a malicious manor, although I could be wrong so just be careful.

I think the most likely way of being banned for the use of better discord is if your account has been compromised and requires to be disabled for privacy reasons.

for me we can not ban for better discord because it revives another way to see discord after the best it would be that discord and better discord work together to ask a better discord to remove malicious plugings (sorry I use google trad)1 -
So does that mean checking deleted messages is bannable?

Dunder Using BetterDiscord as your client is against the ToS, but deleted messages being archived via bot is acceptable if i understand correctly
