Allow increasing the 25 video limit for audio channels as a server boost option.
Hello!
I know, I know, another limit increase request. I totally understand that the limits are there for a reason, and that shepherding video frames all over the internet can get expensive.
I'm currently assisting a Boy Scout Troop that is using Discord as an alternative to in person meetings. What's great about Discord over other communication platforms is that it allows the scouts to self organize.
If they decide they need 5 breakout groups to discuss a topic, they can just make 5 audio/video channels and break out into them.
If they want to spin up a new merit badge discussion, they just make a new channel.
Video has proved to be an integral part of the experience. The breakout groups are often under 25 people, and so they can use video there. However, for the opening and closing of the meeting, the entire troop gets into one channel and that is almost always over 25 people.
Why on Earth would you want 25 people sharing video all at the same time? It really encourages everyone to be focused and present, which can be a challenge with 12-17 year olds. It also provides an important sense of connection, and immediate feedback to meeting runners.
If there was an option to boost the server so that we could get more then 25 people sharing video in a channel, we'd be very happy to pay to help make it happen and to hopefully offset the server costs needed to move 25+ people's worth of frame pixels over the internet.
Thanks and stay safe!
