Noise suppression too effective!
When one user is not actively speaking, the others cannot hear anything on the other end. It sounds like there is no-one there. After a minute or two someone invariably asks "Are you still there?" Please, at the very least find a way to let that slight open-mic hiss to persist.
I understand various users may have different needs and expectations. My contacts use audio chat in groups of 2 or 3 while gaming or just to visit. Most, but not all users use headphones.
Points of clarification:
1) It used to be that when you chatted with a user using speakers on their end, Discord would send your own voice back to you. That PA-like echo is maddening. So kudos for squelching the "return" audio. I see no need for adjusting that. It works well... always on is appropriate.
2) Background noise suppression DOES need adjustment due to clipping the start/end of phrases, but also for open-channel "awareness". (I'm refering to the inherent suppression that currently has no OFF option.) It's also more personal to hear most background noise... your friend's pets' noises, doorbell, and non-verbal reactions (face-plant / keyboard bash / trashcan kick), etc. I ask you, what better reward for kicking their PvP assets? Ideally this might be controlled at both ends of a conversation.
3) The recently added Krisp Beta noise cancellation product is incredible. That loud clapping can be so effectively removed from concurrent voice transmission is somewhat disconcerting. But it will certainly be helpful in larger chats or priority scenarios.
4) And clackety keyboards. Is it Krisp or Discord that deserves Cherry endorcement? Hell, financial reward!
Thanks to you all for an awesome product. Your work is very well received.
...and please, don't ever sell out to Micro$oft. On the other hand, I'll be 100% Linux Mint soon. Thanks for the Linux version!
