Server Settings> Choose Owner / Co-Owner
Hello, I just got a great idea. For people who know each other very well through online discord, or even in real life friends, those who create a server together should be owners & co-owners. Like you know how when someone makes a server, that one person is the owner no matter what. Instead of creating a role of "co-owner" with "administrator" permissions, there should be a section inside server settings.
The reason why I want this is because normally, when you have the "bots" above the "roles", the people who are admins or whatever can't even move those bots, or have their roles locked and the only way for those roles to be move, must be the "owner" of that server.
So, allowing a section for "co-owner" for example to have the same permissions as "owner" without any restrictions, I think it is a great idea.

Yes. If there's only one owner... and that owner dies.... what happens?

I like this idea, but I don't really have a strong feeling this will be added. Suggestions similar to this have been presented to discord developers since ages, and discord has never chosen to add them. Server security is very important to Discord, and it seems like if users are able to add other owners or coowners, that security will be violated. It's annoying that there is a system of hierarchy, but I can understand why multiple people having ownership could be an issue (disputes, power, etc.).

I love this idea. I know many people that this would be very useful to, including me. Please look at this idea, discord.

I think this is a great idea. Me and my friend had a huge fight over who should be owner of our server and I don't want that happening to anybody else! Btw if you were wondering we are ok now!

I think this is a great idea, I currently co-own a server with a friend and we really want to be able to co-own the server as I only have administrator perms. I really hope this does happen.

@XjeaxaxX this is exactly what my team and I are dealing with now. We use it for mod stuff, and the owner died. There an issue with another mod who now needs to be removed but the owner gave them admin perms ages ago. No one is able to remove her now so were having to make a completely new server.

I love this idea, however I think iron makes a great point: what about conflicts? I think the simple solution to prevent major damage (so deletion of the server, removal of a co-owner, etc.) would be to require all the co-owners to agree on it, or a strict majority at least, or something like that, and this wouldn't introduce more issues than there currently are with server ownership.
And for the lesser damage, you could put in place an undo feature, changes are immediate, but can be reversible for 30 days for example, or even 90 days (the life duration of an audit log), this would benefit everyone.

yeah but this idea should be seen. i'm tired of people who owns a server, get their accounts disabled, and they don't have ownership. so they would make an alt account and ask for admin role or something. so thats why co-owner should be there so when it happens, they give "ownership" back or so.
i know discord can let you transfer ownership via email (30 days until fulfilled). but i dont know if anyone does that

A friend and I own a server and we plan on applying for partner. It sucks that only one of us will get the perks if we do succeed and that makes me sad.

Yes same here. The co-ower would be very useful. I hope discord add it! I dont think that this can affect the security that much. For example you can make it so booth of them would need to have 2FA enabled...

we really need it espiecally for little friend groups, because i was king of my kingdom and then we came to an agreement that my friend would be server owner, so if this was added there would be actual equal power. that's all we 11 yr olds care about

Hi Orchid2802 I have seen your message and it is very sad about what happened to the owner and I think I maybe found a way how you can change the ownership. I found on the discord twitter page they said. "If the current owner has been inactive for 30 days you can put in a request to transfer ownership of the server. Just email support@discordapp.com for help!"

I don't think you understood the suggestion shindorusenpai, most of us know about the possibility to transfer ownership, here the idea is to share the ownership between multiple people simultaneously, it allows to share the work of owning a server, which can become quite a lot.

They do allow you to transfer ownership in the examples of giving a larger server to someone who will be full-time or cover while you are away for a bit and that can be found in this thread.
