[Feature Requests] Improvements to Alert Sounds and Events
This is two requests but both are dealing with the Alert Sound system so it seemed fitting to combine them (though, admittedly, that might 'hurt' my votes).
#1 - Provide x-number (5, 10?) of different Alert tones for the ability to assign them to different specific events, in order to differentiate them solely based on audio cues.
- Direct Message
- Mentions
- Channel Activity
- Other?
In this instance it would mainly be the last one, ability to assign different tones to indicate WHICH channel has been spoken in.
Example: I'm a moderator of AND a helper to the developers of a science-based game and they started using Discord. There are various channels users can chat in, as well as reach out to report issues, but also a private Moderators-only channel (#ops). As such, I've set it to provide an audio alert when there's been activity in #bugs-and-feedback, as well as #ops, but also for the channel for the player group (team) I'm part of.
All combined, that's 3 channels with 3 different levels of importance, which is on top of the default Mentions and DMs. Therefore, ability to customize the sounds by being able to select from a list of included tones would be super helpful!
#2 - The ability to configure an Alert timeout duration.
This could be a 'global' or 'per-channel' setting, but the idea is that you can set it to an interval (user-defined? presets [5, 10, 15, 20 minutes]?) or trigger condition of "only for the next [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] messages" where you will receive an alert sound to notify you of channel activity.
This will allow you to still "monitor" for activity, but not have the channel be always set to alert to new messages. Perhaps because you've asked a question in a channel that you otherwise don't frequently use; also because people are not actively at their device/computer and you may want to ensure you're there if they respond.
(Granted, that's kind of what the Mention system is for, but quite a lot of people don't seem to utilize it as often, or in my case I'll refrain sometimes just to no disturb others. One could think of this as the inverse of that, where we want the notification even if there isn't a mention.)
Intended Platforms: All (including browser-based)
