Server discovery is difficult to stay a part of when I don't have the tools to get rid of spam accounts.
I've been struggling to keep my partnered server active to the metrics that discord wants me to to keep it on discovery and I think today I discovered why.
Using the server statistics page I was able to see specific days where 50-70 accounts would randomly join the discord.
Upon investigation I noticed 80% of these accounts were bots/spammer accounts who would sit in the server idle until they issued their spam PMs to the members of my community.
This makes it very hard to keep the active member % above a certain amount due to the ratio of actual members to bots that join.
The only option I can think of to fix this is to manually go through and kick all of the bots myself. This is not viable as someone who has a lot of other things to do during the day.
We need new tools to fight bots.
The easiest solution I can think of is add a CAPTCHA option to new members joining the server.
I believe this alone will keep the bots at bay and help users keep their server on discovery.
Please let me know your thoughts.
this is a lovely idea. but it'd be better if discord added a captcha to new accounts joining discord in general. Like you're not asked to verify if you're a bot or not like at all when you first register and I really think adding a captcha to the registration page would help with bot accounts
