Accessibility Request: Unified “New Posts” View for Users Overwhelmed by Many Channels
I'm requesting an accessibility-focused feature that would make Discord significantly more usable for people like me who are neruo divergent and/or otherwise easily overwhelmed by large, fast-moving servers.
The Problem:
Many servers—especially community, hobby, or gaming servers—have dozens of channels and threads. For some neurodivergent users, including autistic people like myself, it can be extremely difficult to keep track of new posts when activity is scattered across so many places. The current UX requires constantly clicking through multiple channels, expanding thread drawers, and monitoring badges, all of which create cognitive overload and make it harder to stay engaged in communities I care about.
The Proposed Solution
A unified “New Posts” or “All Recent Activity” view, similar to Slack’s threads view or Outlook's Unread Message search fold, that gathers all new messages, thread replies, and mentions across channels into a single, chronological feed with optional sorting and grouping features.
This view could include:
- All unread messages across channels (or selected channels)
- New posts or replies in joined threads
- A toggle to show only mentions or replies
- An option to filter by server or channel
- A compact reading mode to reduce visual clutter
- The ability to group posts by server and channel
- The ability to mark a post, a thread, or a channel as read, including multiple selected items
For some autistic and neurodivergent users, such as myself, having information scattered across numerous servers and channels can be overwhelming and push us out of communities due to burnout or overstimulation, a thing I am constantly struggling with when it comes to using Discord.
Consolidating new activity into a single, manageable view would:
- Reduce cognitive load
- Support neurodivergent accessibility
- Improve server engagement
- Making Discord more inclusive for a broader range of users is a win for everyone.
