Notification Red Dot Icon Selective Notification

I like to use discord as a messenger and therefore like the idea that there is a red dot icon on the Mac app dock external from the app letting me know when I have a notification, the issue I have with this though is that the icon shows even if there are messages in a chat channel I have not seen, I feel it to be unnecessary for me to have to read every single message just to have the icon disappear. It would be nice if we could have options to where it only apply to direct mentions of me, if I receive a DM, or if someone directly replies to a message in a chat channel that I have sent.

If this icon was customizable to be only certain notifications that you want, that would be great as I don't like the idea of muting discord servers.
