Issue where the Android Discord app unmutes your mic while you're on a phone call

So basically I noticed this recently where if I am muted on a call using my Phone by Google app (version 67.0.383690429) on my Google Pixel 3XL on Android 11.0, and I open Discord (version 84.15 stable), it will unmute my mic. This happens in all servers and direct calls. I reported the bug and all of the detailed info in this post, but Discord support hasn't been helpful. Also, the quiz to join the Discord Testers server is still down. My friend with a Samsung Galaxy S10e uses the Samsung Phone app and experiences the same issue.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Clear Discord from Recent Apps
  2. Be on a phone call and muted
  3. Launch Discord
  4. Go back to Phone app
  5. Mic is now unmuted

Actual behavior:

  • Opening Discord unmutes my mic while on the phone

Expected behavior:

  • Opening Discord should not unmute or impact the mic while on a phone call

Steps Discord Support has suggested:

  • Switching from Voice Activity to Push to Talk mode or Push to Talk mode to Voice Activity

  • Completely re-installing the app and then also restarting phone

  • If currently using battery saving mode, switch to normal battery mode

  • See if switching from data vs Wifi makes any difference

  • Trying the Beta version of Discord

None of the above suggestions by Discord Support have helped.

    Discord seems to still be active and doesn't automute on Android. With ios and call integration, if I got a phone call then discord would mute and deafen me from the vc so I could hear my phone call then once the call ended discord would unmute and undeafen.

    Just wanted to say that I've been experiencing this as well for the past month or two. This is a really frustrating bug.

    I'm on call-in meetings often, so it's really annoying when my mic gets unmuted and I accidentally interrupt a discussion because I opened discord.

    I had this issue occur during a work call. Unacceptable, Discord should not be overwriting my microphone settings in other apps! Please look into this.

    This is a huge problem for work calls for people who also use discord with coworkers. Experiencing this as well, and have been living in fear of poorly timed unmuting on conference calls

    I'm experiencing the same issue with my Pixel 5 on Android 12. I even removed Discord's microphone permission and it still unmutes my phone call when opening the Discord app. It's incredibly frustrating.
