Read Message History After Date

It would provide server owners with additional control over their data if there were an option to specify what messages a user can see in regards to a specified date. For example, I have a channel used for voting. I want to keep all the messages in there for record-keeping, but I only want my users to see messages related to the currently running vote. The existing "Read Message History" setting goes too far by completely hiding everything unless they're focused on the channel, and even then, their message history goes away once they un-focus.
