Discord client consistently freezes on tiling window managers on Linux

Whenever I do work, I prefer using a tiling window manager on my computer, however I often get the issue of the whole GUI freezing with various symptoms:

  • The whole GUI is frozen and unresponsive; cannot move
  • Same as above, but when this happens in the middle of typing a message, the message remains and the cursor continues to flash
  • The GUI freezes in 5-10 minute intervals, unfreezing itself again after a couple of minutes

This happens on both the Qtile and Xmonad tiling window managers. I am not facing the same issue on XFCE and KDE Plasma window managers, so I believe that the issue relates to the way tiling window managers handle windows.

I am wondering what is causing this; it may be possible to flag this as an issue with Xmonad and Qtile, even finding a workaround.

Let me know if there are any additional details I can share to make the problem easier to diagnose.
