UI Realestate
Not here to talk about the excess of blank space or padding or whatever, I get it, you guys are going for a look.
I'm taking time to fill out feedback today because I want to share what bothers me most about the Windows application.
The sidebars.
They dont collapse.
They dont resize and give you a horizontal scrollbar, or a little elipse with the full text in a tool tip.
Theres no compact mode or roll up for the list of 80 server icons i have on the left that awkwardly only scrolls down with a mouse wheel.
The user list is equal to the channel list in its ridiculous width, extra whitespace, and unresizable permanently visible attributes. This is all information I do not need to see when I see discord. I need to see the chat. If I need to see something else, I am capable of navigating there. I assume you think users are not. Yo sidebar columns are so fat.... that I can' even make a yo momma joke about them because at least she's not discord fat.
I've allowed the application window to take up more screen real-estate than required at 1500x1250 pixels and I estimate the sidebars that do not hide, resize, roll back, and unmovable take up 40% of the window!
At that overly large size 40% of the window is NOT users chatting. Its lists.
Rename your product Long Lists. Long lists of users, long lists of channels, and long lists of servers. They don't even scroll very well, or give you much information. You want to scroll down to a certain spot on the list? Have fun spinning that mouse wheel or trying to grab the super stealthy but utterly useless scroll bar.
You have sacrificed function, usability, so much QOL for a bloat. Thanks for making most messages several lines tall because they have to fit between your enormous sidebars. I love how it means even more scrolling up and down on the one thing that is skinny, the scroll bars.
I think that I've gotten this ticket bloated enough with overexplanations to make my point.
SO HOW DO YOU LIKE IT?
