High CPU Useage - Possible solution
Background/Issue
I've been plagued with horrible performance as of late - and quickly realized it was due
to the Discord process hogging 100% of one of my cores. This lead to stuttering and
crackling sound in just about any game, even older titles.
Granted - my PC is on the older side and I am looking to upgrade, but with the current
market for GFX Cards being what it is - I have been holding off.
That said - it can run many semi demanding titles quite flawlessly; such as "No Man Sky",
"Total War: Warhammer", DCS World... and up until "some point" - I could run the
voice/chat-program Discord in the background while playing these titles.
Now "suddenly", without any physical changes to my system, I couldn't.
I have done the list of recommended "fixes" a thousand times - save for re-flashing my
BIOS - something I'm not willing to do without knowing it will be the culprit.
Remember - every single other program is running without issue.
Solution:
I've been reduced to using the browser version of Discord for a while, which doesn't
support "push-to-talk". This version of Discord runs perfectly smooth, which made me
look for roll-back versions of Discord. And - wouldn't you know it. I rolled back about
one year... and Discord now runs perfectly smooth... only !sometimes! taking 1-2%
but showing up as taking 0%.
I will keep installing this version until the devs @ Discord realizes they're calling on
some super-new functionality only present in super new devices. (My guess is some
DRM bs they have to be compliant to, as the process is able to interrupt the performance
of other programs, while only running on a single core.)
See below for the version which solved my CPU issues that had me seriously looking for
alternatives to Discord.
Computer:
My PC is a pre-sandybridge 4core i5(750) with 16GB RAM and a GF970.
