"Wave to say hi" sucks
Discord, why have you turned this on again? We thought you realised your mistakes and removed it. But no, here it is again! It is unnecessary and annoying, and worst of all we can't turn it off unless we turn all welcome messages off.

I agree, this option is totally annoying and I've lost subscribers because of it...

I maintain professional servers so I can offer the best quality technical support for my users. But how irritating this message "wave to say hi!" for every single new user. It was fun when a small message appeared saying someone joined, then everyone would say Hi newcomer and that was so great. But now I have to remove welcome messages from my server to avoid the senseless forced messages that are now flooded my landing page. Wow! Managerial oversight to the max!!

I don't know what the designer of this feature was smoking or why they though that flooding the main channel of a server with nauseating, seizure inducing, animated flashing gifs that are obnoxious looking and 10x the amount of screen space as a single line of text was a good idea!
REMOVE THIS ABOMINATION NOW!

Seems like they've finally put in the option to turn it off. No more "prompt members to reply to welcome messages with a sticker"
-1 -
I've turned that off in my server, but some users can still reply on mobile, but others can't.

both users have the same roles and same permissions, and I've disabled "Allow members to reply to welcome messages with a sticker."
On a slightly related note, I wish that they gave the three-setting option for permissions on roles back, would make it easier to manage perms

Uh, why did they add a new "Prompt members to replay to welcome messages with a sticker" option but it only works for PC users?? The ugly waving stickers still persists on mobile. Basically "Prompt members to replay to welcome messages with a sticker" option is deceptive and does not work. What a stupid new Discord feature! It's literally having a negative effect on all of my new members. No one is saying hi to anyone anymore because it's so ugly to have welcome messages in your servers now. I am permanently turning off Welcome messages in all of my servers, and permanently unsubscribing from Discord Nitro.

I think that it's an issue with Nitro. It seems that only Nitro users can do it, on mobile, even with the option turned off

This is the type of garbage that I expect microsoft to do. Adding a new 'feature' that just makes the platform harder to use and more annoying.

I agree with that, why on earth, why why why

BTW, the option "Prompt members to replay to welcome messages with a sticker" does not work, I can't save settings after I turn it off. What a bummer.

I was able to get it to save by clicking both it, and any other option in the same block of options. Then once it was saved, I just set the other option back to it's normal value.
It's pretty sad that the save for this is broken, but at least there is a workaround.

Wow, this works! Great, turned the damn thing off 👍

No it doesn't work :( The tip above worked, but it came back to original after some time. What a bummer.

Yeah, I clicked on a discord notification on my phone again today and it opened the app on my phone, which for some dumb reason turned on the option again for the server. I have no idea why it does that, but it seems like very poor programming!
I then had to log back on my desktop client and spend a few minutes messing around with options to get it turned off again. Even worse was that save wouldn't work, but for some reason the reset button actually saved the changes...

This is exactly what I had too. Including phone usage, messing around with options (now nothing helped, I couldn't save the settings), and the finding out that it's set at the end.
Being a software developer I'm scared how this things is coded... I can understand some bug which causes saving settings not to work. But if a user uses the app on the phone and this is changing server settings, man what's going on there...

Everybody hates 'bump' posts, right?
But it's been two months since the last one, and clearly this behavior still persists.
Why in the everliving blargh does this feature keep turning itself back on?
I'm recommending the servers I'm in to disable welcome messages altogether, and use a bot as an alternative instead as apparently Discord prefers the additional load on servers (however minor it may be in the grand scheme of things) more than fixing a dumb bug.

I disabled welcome messages entirely, never looked back. People are saying this bug still exists and Discord is never going to pay attention to what the user wants. So I agree with @Aimee that a custom bot is the only way around Discord's anti-pattern design.
