Being able to hide status from friends via closing dm (vs unfriend/block)

I have an acquaintance on discord who I would prefer not be able to always see whenever I am online. If I were to unfriend (or block), this person, my privacy settings only allow dms from friends and would terminate communication with them entirely. Even without this configuration, they look at my banner/staus and would easily be able to see that I have unfriended them. It would be really nice to be able to close the dm and have the hiding-status effect that unfriending them would, without cutting off communication entirely. In other words, every time the dm is closed, I remain invisible to them unless I reopen the dm.
