Location Sharing (Feature Request)
Would like to re-up the discussion on location sharing since these threads are all quite old:
Location sharing primarily for PoGo and similiar (2 years old)
Location Sharing (3 years old)
Live Location support (like in WatchApp) (1 year old)
For the growing number of AR games and in-person meetups where communities move through physical spaces as a part of their shared activities, it would be really useful to have a way the live-share locations in the app. This feature would also further expand Discord's status as a valid platform for non-gaming communities.
One of the groups I am a part of use similar features in chat apps from other platforms the organize group rides of Personal Electric Vehicles. When we moved to discord, we had to start using Google Maps location sharing links to achieve this functionality, which is not very streamlined.
Much of the discussion in previous threads bring up very valid privacy concerns, but with the modern location frameworks in iOS and Android, I think the privacy implications of this feature could be pretty well controlled. Server owners could opt-in to the feature in server settings. Operating systems could prompt for location access only on the first time a user attempts to activate the feature. I think a good place for it would be in the "+" menu in the text chat. Active live locations could be seen as a semi-live window in the text chat as a part of a message, or as a semi-live feed in a voice channel.

I love this idea. especially if you can set a max time like 1 hour or 3 hours or end of day. similar to the find my friends functionality in the apple ecosystem!
