NFTs are harmful to the environment and implementing them into Discord is sending it the way of Skype- killing it with greed.
I'm joining the hundreds of other users ringing their bell to shut down the implementation of NFTs and Cryptowallets into Discord. NFTs and crypto as a whole are just a ticking time bomb waiting to go off that have caused unnecessary damage to the environment. NFTs are another cashgrab at trying to capitalize artwork and scam people out of value that does not exist. At it's base appearance it's an almost too good to be true solution to the lack of anonymous-ness when it comes to online transactions. However, at the end of all things is the horrific damage it's doing to the environment really worth hiding your identity over a shitty drawing of a lion smoking a huge blunt that you could get made for you on Reddit for under 15 dollars?
At the end of the day the emissions created by cryptomining are drastic- one Bitcoin transaction costs roughly around 100USD in energy cost, where one hour of game play on an average home-computer costs roughly around .4USD. It's shocking how much disregard goes towards the energy cost to go through ONE transaction, and when you take into consideration how many Bitcoin (not including other Cryptos!) transactions occur in a day as well as MINING. Mining a single bitcoin itself can cost up to 286,000 kilowatts per hour, on average in the United States a person uses about 28.9 kWh- PER DAY. Producing one Bitcoin is equivalent to almost 1,000 people playing on a computer for 24 hours straight, if that.
So you might be asking, where does this hurt the environment? When you consider roughly 40% of the energy produced in the world comes from coal factories, and those coal factories are on average producing 0.85 pounds of CO2 per kilowatt produced you can began to solve the picture of how this is going to impact the environment. NFTs are built upon crypto blockchain technology, which uses the same amount of rough energy. And this is just for bitcoin! This isn't counting every other crypto that has been shit out by people seeking to grab at cash!
With that off my chest, I can't help but plead with you crypto bros to do a couple things:
1. COPE.
ACCEPT THAT YOU WASTED YOUR MONEY ON A SCAM FOR AN UGLY LOOKING PICTURE OF A LION THAT IS LITERALLY WORTHLESS. YOUR CHIMP SMOKING A DOOBIE IS WORTHLESS. THE ONLY VALUE IT HAD WAS ON THE TIME OF PURCHASE. YOU FELL FOR A DUMB SCAM. SUCK IT UP.
2. DO YOUR RESEARCH
LOOK BEYOND YOUR CRYPTO WEBSITES AND READ ACTUAL SCIENCE JOURNALS AS WELL AS DO SOME BASIC MATH. IT'S NOT HARD TO FIGURE OUT THESE NUMBERS. JUST BECAUSE MINER DAILY SAYS THAT IT'S NOT KILLING THE ENVIRONMENT DOESN'T MEAN THAT IT'S NOT.
3. GO OUTSIDE AND TOUCH GRASS

Dear Nerds and Losers who support this: Peddle your jpegs somewhere else. The fact you’re stupid enough to spend hundreds of dollars on LITERALLY NOTHING is fine, but you’re not even buying nothing, you’re buying a hole that resources are being shoveled into. It’s disgusting, and honestly morally reprehensible, especially in a world where you can (VERY EASILY) download literally whatever these people are selling you. Commenting to help boost this. Discord needs to know that this is not what the userbase wants. To everyone else reading, cancel your Nitro subscription if you have one. Do NOT give your money to a company who is actively choosing to destroy our planet.
