In what world does a chat app need crypto?

This is a chatting app to be in places with friends, bond over common interests, and build communities. The crypto peeps can have their own little corner of Discord - I have no problem with that (though I dislike crypto as it's used today). What I do have a problem with is Discord teasing crypto integrations based solely on the desires of the group that would use it, and from what I can see, is not acknowledging the number of people who will stop supporting Discord or will encourage people to migrate away. Why does a chat app - literally, you guys market it as such (or as a "place to be with friends") - need any degree of integration with cryptocurrency or NFTs?
