The computation of blockchain technologies guzzles hundreds of terawatt-hours annually. This increases energy prices for everyone else, from gamers running their rigs, to the elderly trying to survive summer heat. It can even lead to the implementation of rolling blackouts to keep energy usage under control. That means no AC, rotten fridge food, no gaming, and certainly no discord.

And for what? So people have a fun new way to pay for their Nitro subscription? Or so they can pay ridiculous amounts of money to associate their name with the hash of an image, so they can "own" it?

The only legitimate uses of cryptocurrency are to avoid government surveillance, or for black market purchases. And those are only covering up the problem, or something I'm unwilling to support, respectively. Everything else might as well be a scam.

I refuse to give money to a company that actively supports and lends legitimacy to these scams, if not for the wellbeing of the victims, then for the wellbeing of our energy grid, and ultimately, our environment.
