No NFTs!!

NFTs are bad for all of the artists who use discord to showcase, promote, conduct business, and share their art, but they are also awful for the environment. One NFT of a short gif format image uses energy amounting to a resident in Europe for roughly 2 months. NFTs are mostly sold using Ethereum, who's "proof of work" system consumes massive amounts of energy. The system Ethereum uses, forces people to solve puzzles that use energy-heavy machines to make new blocks on the blockchain. The whole process is intended to be largely energy inefficient. Ethereum uses just about as much electricity as the entire country of Libya. (https://www.theverge.com/2021/3/15/22328203/nft-cryptoart-ethereum-blockchain-climate-change). The more NFT transactions that are made, the higher the energy demand will be for it, thus creating more and more emissions. Just as NFTs are very bad on our environment, they are very bad for artists. The numbers are rising if people stealing others digital art to create NFTs without the consent of the artist. One of the creators behind the technology that created NFTs has written an article about how they are being abused and do NOT protect artists (https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/04/nfts-werent-supposed-end-like/618488/). When someone makes an artists artwork into an NFT, they aren’t buying the actual artwork, basically just a link to it, which in the long run will not last. So, it’s not only a scam to those buying into this scheme, it’s detrimental to the environment and artists. Discord devs I highly encourage you to read through some of these articles and listen to the voices of your user base. Many as far as I have seen do not want NFTs on your platform, and if you do go thorough with this, you will likely lose many many subscribers and face a nice dip in your revenue.
