The red dot on the taskbar does not always mean that there is a red dot on Discord -- also known as a "mention".

The red dot on the taskbar could just mean there is an unread message in one of your servers, which is usually indicated by a white/gray half circle on the server.

It would definitely be nice to have 2 different icons in the taskbar to differentiate an unread "mention" and a mere unread "message".

A "Mention" on the taskbar has a number in the red dot. So, they are distinguishable.

"The red dot could just mean an unread message" Yes, that is exactly what I said..

"which is usually indicated by a white/gray half circle". Took a screenshot in zoomed in to about 800% in MS Paint. I can see no such circle. Do I need an HDR Capable monitor?

Sorry I thought you were talking about the Discord icon in the toolbar.

This icon doesn't have a way to distinguish between an unread mention vs an unread message.

The half circle I'm referring to is this:

But I think I totally misunderstood your initial post. Sorry for the dumb moment 😅

That circle used to appear, but it no longer does since about 1-2 weeks ago.

A lot of people use this platform to chat and make video or voice calls. You might want to add a link to a Discord server on a contact page, so these images we have here will be of help.

You do not have to reinstall. it is a thing with the app being full screen. it is a known problem with the underlying technology (i think it is called electron). if you take it out of full screen and then resize it to the size of the screen it will show.
