how to go back to the old discord version (before update)
hello fellow android users,
I hate the new update. I think a ton of us do. So I downloaded an older version of Discord to my phone, and it fixed the entire app. If you need help with that/haven't done it yet, here's a little guide. I hope it helps :)
1. Go to the Google Play Store and head over to Settings. Click Network Preferences. Turn auto-update off for your apps.
2. Head to https://discord-chat-for-gamers.en.uptodown.com/android/versions
3. Download one of the apk versions that came before the mid-August update. Personally, I chose the July 20th update - Version 126.21. However, you can pick whichever one you'd like.
4. Once the apk file is downloaded, uninstall Discord from your phone.
5. Once Discord has been uninstalled, open your phone's files and head to the apk/installation files folder. Click on the apk file that you just downloaded. You might get a prompt on your phone that says something along the lines of "Downloads are not allowed from this file" (or something like that) but simply go to your Settings and click Allow.
6. Run the apk and wait for it to finish. Then open up Discord. It should be fixed (I hope, because I'm not very confident in my guide-making skills). For me, everything runs so much smoother, and all the old features are back again.
I hope this helped

I'm sticking to this last stable version indefinitely.
I have no idea how that unoptimized React Native garbage made it past quality checks, it's horrible! The performance of the app went from good to worst, it's really unacceptable.
Everything lags to the point that inputs are skipped, this app is now TRASH.Thank you very much for this tutorial!

this doesnt work anymore because discord sucks and basically pulled a kill switch on any previous version!

I was just about to say the same thing as Percy. It seems that any version before the RN Rewrite has been killed off, as I have been having issues with my version of Discord and it wasn't until after panicking and trying everything that I realized that. I wish that instead of forcing everyone to use the ReactNative version they'd like- Put up two versions of the app? Regular Discord being the current rewrite and "Discord - Classic" could be the native Android build.

How Discord can't have a win one single time?? They made a horrible update, and now we are basically forced to stick with???? Literally a lesson about how to not make a UX right. I wish to swear Discord with all names for this. Never going to give one cent to a team that makes this kind of decisions.

I can't believe they've just killed this God damn update what the actual hell is wrong with the discord team there must be something wrong in their heads in order to think that this is OK this has pissed me up the wall man I'm ready to hurt someone

What are you guys talking about, specifically? I'm still on 126.21 and the only issue I've had the past 2 days was perhaps some sort of Discord API lag. What's actually cool is that, even in this old native version, the new Forum feature works as intended.

The android version stopped working today

The React Native problem introduced with the August update has impacted Android only, as iOS has been on RN for a long while already (years maybe?), therefore RN has received more optimizations on that platform.
Porting the iOS codebase to the Android platform (with so many different types of phones too) meant that many of us have a terrible user experience (the app gets stuck / hangs / skips entire user inputs). Edit: it's fixed

From what I read on Reddit, apparently it was allegedly unintentionally broken by an API update (they wrote that they do not check old versions after every new API update, so they didn't notice right away). This all happened during my night cycle so I didn't witness a thing of this, except some API lag: reddit.com/comments/xwvfkk
